Step 1

In this how-to we’re going to learn stocking stitch. This stitch is simply knitting all of the stitches in one row, then purling all of the stitches in the next row.

Step 2

To knit - Take your needle and insert it through the first stitch on your left hand needle from left to right, wrap the yarn around and scoop up a new loop, sliding the old loop of the needle.

Continue knitting to the end of the row.

Swap your work over so the needle with the stitches in in your left hand.

To Purl - Insert the right needle through the first stitch on your left needle from right to left, wrap the yarn around and scoop up a new loop, sliding the old loop off the needle.

Continue purling to the end of the row.

Swap your work over so the needle with the stitches in in your left hand.

And it’s as easy as that folks! To continue to work in stocking stitch knit the rows when the Vs are facing towards you and purl the rows where the bumps or waves are facing towards you.
