Step 1

Crochet crew, we got you! Let’s talk turning chains. These are used to add height at the beginning of every row in crochet.

Step 2

The number of chain stitches worked depends on the stitch you are working:

Step 3

Single crochet = 1 chain stitch

Half-double crochet = 2 chain stitches

Double crochet = 3 chain stitches

Step 6

At the end of your previous row and before you start your next row, take your yarn over your hook and use the hook pull through a loop. This is 1 chain stitch. As we’re doing single crochet we only need 1 chain stitch.

Turn your work around then skip the turning chain and work into the next stitch from the hook.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 at the end of every row and turn your work to your heart’s desire.
