Start by working a foundation chain.

Chain an additional stitch, this is your turning chain and you must work this step at the beginning of every row.

Insert your hook into the 2nd chain stitch and draw through a loop of yarn.

Loop the yarn around your hook.

Bring it through both loops on your hook, now just 1 stitch remains and you have completed your first single crochet stitch.

Working into each stitch of the foundation chain in turn, repeat these steps to work a row of single crochet stitches.
