Wrap the yarn around the hook again, and pull it through all 3 loops on your hook. Join your round with a slip stitch into the 2nd chain stitch. Cut your yarn and pull on the loop on your hook until the end pops through.

To work a treble crochet stitch; wrap the yarn around the hook twice, then insert the hook into the stitch and pull through a loop.
