Thread your darning needle with a length of yarn matching the colour of your piece.

First starting with two garter pieces. Insert your needle underneath the bottom edge of your fabric in between the first and second stitches, pull your yarn through and leave a short tail which you can weave in at the end.

Make the same stitch to your opposite piece.

Take your sewing needle underneath one of the horizontal bars underneath the first and second stitch.

On your opposite piece, find that same bar and pull your yarn through.

Continue connecting your two pieces with the horizontal bars between the first and second stitches of each piece.

To work two stocking stitch pieces, make sure your two edges are lined up and thread your needle.

Insert your needle underneath the bottom edge of your fabric somewhere between the cast on or cast off edge, pull your yarn through and leave a short tail which you can weave in at the end.

On your opposite piece, find that stitch on your cast on or cast off edge and pull your yarn through.

Similar to garter stitch, take your sewing needle and thread it underneath one of the horizontal bars that runs between the first and second edge stitch.

You will then find the corresponding bar on the other piece of stocking stitch and repeat that process.

Continue connecting your two pieces with the horizontal bars between the first and second stitches of each piece.
