This technique is worked over 4 different rows, in this sample we are working the stitches in multiples of 6.

For the first row, knit the first 6 stitches as normal.

Purl the next 6 stitches.

Knit as normal until you reach your next section of purl stitches.

Purl 6 stitches, and knit the last 6 stitches. This will complete your first row.

Turn your work and begin to work on your second row: 6 purl stitches, 6 knit stitches, purl the middle section you previously knit, knit 6, and purl 6.

For pattern row 3: knit 6, purl 6, knit the middle section, purl 6, knit 6.

To begin row 4, purl the first 6 stitches.

Grab your cable needle and slip the next 3 stitches from your left hand needle onto the cable needle.

Hold the cable needle behind your work.

Knit the first 3 stitches from your left hand needle, keeping your cable needle in the back.

Now you can knit the 3 stitches placed on your cable needle. You are switching the order of when you knit your stitches. You are now finished with your cable needle for the time being.

Purl the middle stitches, repeat steps 9-12 to create your second cable, purl your last 6 stitches.
