Once you’ve worked your foundation chain, make an additional 3 chain stitches, this is your turning chain and you must work this turning chain at the beginning of every row.

You don’t work into your turning chain, which means that your first double crochet stitch will be worked into the 4th chain stitch from your hook, not counting the loop on the hook.

Wrap the yarn over the hook, then insert the hook into the 4th chain from the hook and pull through a loop. You now have 3 loops on your hook.

Take your yarn around the hook again and pull it through the first 2 loops on your hook. You now have 2 loops left on your hook.

To finish your first stitch, take your yarn around the hook again and pull it through the last 2 loops on your hook.

Wrap the yarn around the hook and insert it into the next chain stitch and pull through a loop.

Repeat steps 4 to 5 to work your next stitch.
