How to knit a Crazy Sexy Pouf

Some of you may have spotted our Crazy Sexy Wool cube pouf in the background of our recent baby shoot. Want to know how you can knit up your own? Then read on!

You will need:

2 balls of WATG’s Crazy Sexy Wool in Ivory White

2 balls of WATG’s Crazy Sexy Wool in Hot Punk Pink

2 balls of WATG’s Crazy Sexy Wool in Ultra Violet

A pair of 15mm/US19 knitting needles

A sewing needle

A pair of scissors

Toy stuffing (or why not use left over yarn to stuff your pouf instead?)

The pouf is made up of 6 squares and each side is a different colour or stitch. For each square we cast on 23 stitches using the cable cast on technique (which you can watch a tutorial for here) and knitted until the piece measured 34cm/13.5″ from the cast on edge (or until the height of the square is the same as the width). Then all you have to do is cast off (click here to to learn how).

Square 1: Moss stitch in Ivory White

square 1

*Knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch*, repeat the section inside the stars until you have 1 stitch left of your row, knit this stitch.

As you are working over an odd number of stitches, you simply need to keep repeating this one row until your square measures 34cm/13.5″. It couldn’t be simpler! If you want to see some live action moss stitching, check out our video tutorial.

Square 2: Stocking stitch in Hot Punk Pink

square 2

Row 1: Knit all of your stitches.

Row 2: Purl all of your stitches.

Keep repeating these 2 rows until your square is as tall as it is wide. Click here to watch of stocking stitch video.

Square 3: Stocking stitch in Ivory White

square 3

Repeat the instructions for square 2 but switch up the yarn colour.

Square 4: Reverse stocking stitch in Ultra Violet

square 4

Repeat the instructions for square 2 but when you come to seam your pouf, turn square 4 so that the reverse, or ‘purl bump’ side is showing. Using the wrong side of the fabric is an easy way to mix up the textures and makes your pouf look more interesting.

Square 5: 2 by 1 rib and garter stitch

square 5

Row 1: Knit all of your stitches.

Row 2: *Purl 2 stitches, knit 1 stitch*, repeat the section inside the stars until you have 2 stitches left of your row, purl these 2 stitches.

Repeat these 2 rows until your square reaches the desired length.

Square 6: Stocking stitch with garter stitch stripe

square 6

Row 1: Knit all of your stitches.

Row 2: Purl all of your stitches.

Row 3: Knit all of your stitches.

Row 4: Knit all of your stitches.

Repeat these 4 rows until your piece measures 34cm/13.5″ from your cast on edge.

Sewing up

Once you’ve knitted up all 6 of your squares, all you have to do is sew them together to form your pouf.

Here are our 3 invisible seaming technique video so that you can get your pouf finished off in no time.

Vertical invisible seaming – use this technique when you’re joining 2 side edges of knitting.

Horizontal invisible seaming – use this when your joining cast on and cast off edges.

Perpendicular invisible seaming – use this seam for joining a side edge to a cast on or cast off edge.

Don’t forget to stuff your pouf before you close up your last seam!

Happy knitting!
