How to knit brioche stitch

This week on Saturday Stitches we show you how to knit brioche stitch.

This stitch produces a double-sided fabric which is chunky and super squishy, especially when you team it with our luxuriously soft Sugar Baby Alpaca yarn. Here we have worked with two strands of yarn held double in Martini Grey. Simply cast on an even number of stitches and read on for our step by step instructions.

Set up row

Hold the yarn in front of your work, insert your right needle purl-wise into the first stitch on your left needle and slip it off.

brioche 1

Bring the yarn over your right needle to the back of your work (this is called a ‘yarn over’).

Knit 1 stitch as normal.

Repeat these 3 steps until you have worked all the stitches of your row.
